Vue - Primative objects and attribute changing - Page 1 -Page 2 Page 3

  • The Aim is to show how Vue primatives can be manipulated.
  • You should have done this tute first to familiarise yourself with the interface (800KB html page)
  • This is what we will create - the texturing will becovered in the next tutorial.
Note: Save your work often

  • Step 1
  • Lets open up Vue and create a new scene. This can be done by Menu/File/New
  • or
  • By clicking on the symbol at the top left.
  • This will bring up a dialogue box asking for what sort of atmosphere you want for your scene.
  • Here is what I used.

  • Step 2
  • I find it easier to manipulate objects when the camera pointing stright up.
  • (1)Switch to four pane view (F7)
  • (2) Select the Canera
  • (3) Make sure you have the object position attributes selected
  • (4) Select the object position icon Hhere are the values I used
  • (5) Select the object Rotation and rotate it 180 so it pints straight up.
  • In future I would make sure the camera is placed at X=0 (right in the middle of the screen.
  • It would make positioning objects easier.
  • Step( 3)
  • We may need to centre our window view on the camera
  • (1) Delesect the camera by selecting the sun
  • (2) Click on frame selected object.
  • (3) Click on the camera
  • This will cause any objects we create to come in the centre of our view
  • (the pic below is a Vue5I screenshot)
  • Step 3
  • Lets Create a Cube
  • Menu/Objects/Create/Cube
  • Step 4
  • The Cube will come in on top of our camera so lets move our camera back from the cube (change the Y position)
  • Step 5
  • To to keep our scene easier to manage it is best to use layers in our scene library.
  • Vue 4 has 8 layers only - Vue5 users will need to create a new layer.
  • Drag the cube to a new layer
  • Step 6
  • (1) Lets resize our cube to make it look like a leg: 1.5 square thick(X & Y) and 28.25 long
  • The dimensions are relative - so long as the ratios are correct.
  • (2) It's easier to keep track of objects if we give them meaningful names.
  • so double click on the object name (It can be a bit tricky) and rename the cube to "Leg"
  • We will duplicate thes leg latter
  • Step 7
  • Lets create a frame for our table.
  • This will consist of 4 elongated cubes, 3/4": thick and 4" higk and different lengths.
  • ( (1) Create a new cube and call it Framelong, dimensionsL: X = 31, Y=0.75, Z= 4. (Lenght/Thickness/Height)
  • (2) Copy/Paste
  • (3) rename to FrameShort - change the length:X = 13
  • (4) Copy/Paste, rename to Frameangle1 = length: X= 18.5
  • (5) Repeat step 2 but rename it to Frameangle2
  • So we now have four pices, and a leg which we will copy/paste, to rearrange to create the frame and legs.
