Vue - Introduction to Vue Textures - Page 1 -Page 2

  • The aim is to introduce texturing in Vue
  • You should have done this tute first to familiarise yourself with the interface (800KB html page)
  • The Model used in this file can be downloaded here.
  • The complete scene can be downloaded here (1.2MB) if you don't want to set up your own scene. Just unzip it to the same location as you saved the model. If you do this you can go straight to #Step2

Note: Save your work often

  • Step 1
  • (1) Create a new Scene - It's a hot summers day - and delete the ground.
  • (2) Load the Legal bookcase model, from where you extrtacted it, and move it to a new layer (Vue 5 will find it under the file menu)
  • (3) Set the camera up to track the bookcase. If you dont know how to do this a mini tute is here.
  • (4) Create a point light, increase the brightness to 180 and position it as per the pic.

This what our default bookcase looks like.

  • # Step 2
  • If we expand out our model - Scene contents library and click on a part we can see the material for that part only.
  • (1) This icon brings up all the materials in our scene - in this case for our only object - the bookcase.
  • The object has three material zones. - Grain Horizontal - Grain Vertical and Glass
  • These are created by the model builder.
  • Step 3
  • We will change the appearence of our book case by eding the material.
  • (1) In the material sunnary window (as pictured below)
  • (1a) Right click on one of the material preview to bring up our material manipulation screen - we want to edit the material
  • We will do the GrainH (Horizontal Grain First) and then the Vertical Grain
  • Step 4
  • Here is our first material editing screen - there are lots of these however we will keep the materials for this book case simple.
  • Step 5
  • Lets change the timber texture on our book case.
  • (1) We do this by loading in a new texture map - In this case cherry.jpg
  • (2) we may need to rotate the texture map to it pointing the right way (we don'tneed to do this this time)
  • Step 6
  • Here is what our material looks like now
  • we need to confirm our changes by clicking ok.
  • Step 7
  • Here is a render of our bookcase after having changed the GrainV(ertical)
  • Step 8
  • Now go back to step 3 and change the GrainH material to cherry.
  • And here is what it looks like after changeing the Grain H(orizontal) to cherry
