Vue - Introduction to Lighting - Page 1 -Page 2

  • The aim is to introduce lighting in Vue .
  • You should have done this tute first to familiarise yourself with the interface (800KB html page)
  • The complete scenes can be downloaded here (67KB) if you don't want to set up your own scenes. Just unzip it to the location of your choice. If you do this you can go straight to #Step2

Note: Save your work often

  • Step 1 - Scene 1 setup
  • (1) Create a new Scene - It's a hot summers day
  • (2) Create A Cube, Sphere and a Cylinder and position them as per pic2
  • (3) Texture them, I kept things simple:Box = Red, Sphere = White and Cylinder Blue.
  • (4) Set the camera up to track the Sphere. If you dont know how to do this a mini tute is here.

  • # Step 2
  • Here is the scene with the default lighting - The atmosphere we had set up.
  • Notice the harsh shadows.
  • Step 3
  • We can stop any object from receiving shadows or creating shadow by setting the material effects.
  • Step 5
  • Lights can also have gells, they are like pieces of plastic placed in front of the light. Here we have placed one on the sun
  • And this is the result
  • Step 6
  • We can also control the ammount of shadows the light causes
  • Vue 4 Pro and greater have a lot more conntrols to manage lighting, however thast will be another lesson.
  • Step 7
  • We can also soften the shadow edges.
