- .... You know how to set up a render and a camera , and open the Parameter dials window.
|
- Lets get set up by loading a figure -
- Here I have used Victoria 3 with textures by DAZ and 3D Dream's Egypt Hair
- and rotated her slightly to her right .
- I have switched to the face camera and set it as per the pic below.
-
|
 |
- Lets set up for rendering.
- Here is what I used.
|
 |
- Before setting up any lights pose the figure and set up the camera because:
- if you move the figure or camera you will need to re adjust the lighting.
- Also delete any existing lights
|
 |
- .
- We will be setting up three lights - All white so we don't introduce any unwanted colours into the scene..
- (1) Key light - Dominant light in the scene and its positioning is very important for lighting the scene.
- (2) Fill light - A dim light, usually at the oposite angle to the key light to sinulated reflected light from the environment.
- (3) Backlighting - (optional) usefull to to highlight dark object from a dark background or to separate an object from the background.
- .
- The diagram shows the Poser coodinate system and how we will set up our lights.
|
 |
- Lets set up our key Light.
- A good starting point is about 15 to 45 degrees to the left or right, and above our camera
- Too close to the camera can "flatten" the figure being illuminated.
- .
- (1) Create the light - By click on the "Sun" symbol of the lighting controls.
- (2) Change the name of the light to "Key Light" to make it easy to keep track of our lights.
- (3) Make the light a spotlight - Gives us more options if need be.
- (4) Point the light to an object in the scene. In this case Vicky's right eye.
- (5) Adjust the light Colour to white with an intensity, brightness, of 100.
- (6) Adjust the position of the light.
-
|
 |
- Creating the Key Light (b)
-
- (5) Adjust the light Colour to white with ann intensity (brightness) of 100.
- (6) Adjust the position of the light.
|
 |
- Create a fill spotlight light pointing to the Left eye as per above.
- Position it to the right of the camera and below the Key light as per the pic below.
- Make the Key light white as well .
- However reduce the intensity to 40 to avoid washing out the picture.
- Greater difference between the Key Light and the Fill light creates more dramatic lighting.
-
|
 |
- Create a Backlight spotlight pointing to the hair per above.
- Position it to the right of the camera and behind the figure as per the pic below.
- Make the Backlight white as well .
- In Colour pictures backlights may not be needed hover in black and white pics they are grewat for separating the figure from the background.
- Here it just adds a higlight to the hair and shoulders.
-
|
 |
- .
- You may wish to save this lighting setup in your Lights library.
-
|
- Exercise - Create a ligting set up for a full figure sitting pose.
- Keep in mind if you move the figure or camera you may need to adjust the lighting
- Above all ......................... experiment!
