Comparison between shooting modes in the Basic Zone and Creative Zone.
- This is for a Canon 350D (Rebel XT) however the same principals apply to other cameras.
- Landscape Mode - Camera will automatically set ISO 100 to 400.
- .................. Will always try to set the smallest aperture possible - Allowing greatest depth of field.
- .................. However this may be at the expense of a slow shutter speed below hand holding ability
- .................. Also The aperture May still be small enough to meet your depth of field needs.
- .................. No use of the flash at all.
- .................. And as always no control of the final output (.jpg pictures only)
- Here are some pics showing typical landscape mode applications.
- They are not taken in Landscape mode as I don't personally use it. They are vacation shots.
- Here is a classic case where you may possibly want to use Landscape mode (I didn't).
- The foreground tree framing the scene is relative sharp as is the fortress up on the hill, as well as everything in between.
- That is because I used a relative small aperture (F20) to give us great depth of field.

- In Landscape shooting mode you cannot use a flash.
- Here is what happens if you have a lot of light behind the subject.
- The next photo will show what happens when you use fill in flash (Another tutorial?)
- Because there is a lot of light coming in from behind me (in the picture) I am underexposed although I am relatively sharp as is the background.
- Canon 350D (Rebel XT) with 17-85 IS lens@ 24 mm (~40mm)ISO 400 1/160 at F9 . No fill in flash.

- If I am not in landscape mode I can use a flash with the results as below.
- It is not perfect however it is a lot better than the picture above.
- Now you can see me as well as the background. All is still relatively sharp because of the F9 aperture.

- The built in flash was used to fill in the missing details, ie: Throw a bit of light onto me.

- This is similar to using Night Portrait mode, however at night the camera may set a slow shutter speed to capture the background resulting in the background being un sharp due to ca mara movement.
